Blue Riband Gin

Mc Dowell’s – Blue Riband

Introducing Blue Riband Gin, a venerable and well-established brand that made its debut in 1959 and has since become a stalwart in the Indian market. In 2000, the brand underwent a relaunch, updating its packaging and renewing its commitment to delivering a distinct gin experience. This gin impresses with its intriguing aroma, but its taste is marked by a combination of texture and sweetness, which, unfortunately, culminates in a less-than-ideal finish.

Tasting Notes:

This gin appears to be very clear, exhibiting a high degree of transparency. There are no visible impurities or particles. Its consistency is notably thick, it does not flow quickly, and its viscosity is relatively high. The legs are observed to move slowly, does not easily run or spread.

First Nose: The initial impression of the aroma reveals prominent citrus notes, specifically resembling the bright and zesty scent of citrus fruits like pomelo. This provides a refreshing and invigorating quality to the aroma.

Second Nose: On the second examination, the aroma profile shifts to a more complex character. It presents botanical elements, suggesting the presence of herbal or plant-like scents. Additionally, a fruity undertone emerges, adding a layer of fruity sweetness and depth to the overall bouquet.

The primary flavor profile of this sample is characterized by a thick and oily texture, and dominated by an artificial sweetness, which can be quite intense. A light vanilla note adds a creamy and familiar sweetness to the overall taste experience.
In the secondary flavor profile, there are pleasant sensations of tickling vibrations that provide a unique sensory element. These vibrations are not overpowering, but they add an interesting layer to the taste experience. A very subtle note of pastry dough is present in the secondary flavor, contributing a baked, slightly doughy aspect to the overall taste.
The finish of this sample leaves much to be desired. It concludes with an unpleasant sugary water aftertaste, unsatisfying and lacking in depth. The artificial sweetness remains prominent in the finish.
