Fratelli Sangiovese

Fratelli Sangiovese

Fratelli Sangiovese is an ambitious red wine crafted from estate-grown Sangiovese grapes, aiming to bring a slice of Italian winemaking tradition to Indian soil. While it aspires to impress with its elegance and approachability, it might leave some tasters debating its true potential.

Visual Review

Let’s start with a compliment because even the most questionable wines deserve a moment in the spotlight. Visually, this Sangiovese is quite the looker. Its medium transparency and pale ruby hue shimmer with clarity and an intensity that perfectly suits its type. Honestly, if drinking wine was all about admiring it from a distance, this one might just win some awards. Unfortunately, things go downhill from here.

Aroma Review

The aroma makes a decent first impression—nothing groundbreaking, but moderately strong and reasonably pleasant.

You might catch a hint of black cherry if you’re paying attention. It’s simple, straightforward, and doesn’t try to overcomplicate things. So far, so okay…

Taste Review

Then, you take a sip, and that’s where the dream crumbles. The dryness is fine, but the bitterness that creeps in is, let’s just say, unforgettable—and not in a good way. Harsh tannins and a bad aftertaste team up to leave your palate feeling betrayed. I even gave it an hour in the decanter to calm down, but it stubbornly refused to improve.

The flavor intensity might be noticeable, but that’s hardly a saving grace when the balance is so painfully off. The finish is moderate, but it’s unpleasant enough that you’ll wish it was shorter (again, this bitterness). Overall, the tasting experience was barely enjoyable.

The quality level is poor, but it’ll look great in the glass for your Instagram post—just don’t let anyone see your reaction after the first sip. However, I’ll give it another try in the future. There are chances that it has been damaged between the winery and my wineshop.
