Visual Review

The Deccan Plateau Zinfandel makes a strong first impression in the glass. Deep, opaque and intensely ruby, it has the kind of colour that suggests there is rather more going on than the label might let on. Visually, it is rich, inviting and nicely dramatic without resorting to unnecessary theatrics.
Aroma Review
The nose follows through with medium plus intensity and a very good sense of quality. There is some welcome variety here, with smoky notes taking centre stage, backed by ripe raspberry and a touch of pepper. Black cherry appears towards the end, adding a darker, slightly enigmatic layer. It is an expressive nose, with enough going on to make you want to return to the glass rather than simply get on with drinking it.

Taste Review
On the palate, the wine takes a lighter and more elegant route than its deep appearance might suggest. Medium acidity keeps it fresh, while the light body and gentle alcohol warmth make it remarkably easy to drink. Medium tannins provide structure without becoming intrusive, and the light viscosity contributes to a silky texture. It is dry, with strong flavour intensity and a pleasing combination of fruit, spice and smoky depth.
What really works is the balance. Everything seems to know its place, resulting in an excellent overall harmony. There is moderate complexity, enough to keep the tasting interesting without turning it into an academic exercise. The finish is long and pleasant, leaving the flavours hanging around rather nicely. Quite frankly, it is the sort of finish that makes you take another sip even when you had already decided you were done.
