Visual Review

Big Banyan Cabernet Sauvignon is a delightful reminder that wine does not always follow the script. Despite being 19 years old, it still shows a deep purple colour with impressive intensity and freshness. Instead of looking tired, it appears remarkably youthful, almost as if time decided to take a day off.

Aroma Review

The nose is light but very appealing, offering black cherry, generous vanilla and a refreshing hint of eucalyptus. It is not especially powerful, yet the aromas are clean, expressive and inviting enough to keep you coming back for another sniff.

Taste Review

On the palate, this dry Cabernet balances medium body, gentle acidity and firm tannins with confidence. The fruit remains vibrant, the flavours are well defined and the finish is pleasant. Even more surprising, it barely shows the tertiary character expected from a wine of this age. The tannins are still settling in, giving it enough structure to suggest that it can continue ageing gracefully.

Overall, this is a very enjoyable, good quality Cabernet that has aged far more slowly than expected.
